| Origin Live newsletter No 2 |
5th November 2003 Welcome to another edition of the Origin Live Newsletter. Thank you again
for this opportunity to let us share a little of what has been going on.
This issue covers a few of the key developments at Origin Live along with
news and views. This new format is to allow you to print the page easily. CONTENTS1. Can your turntable be upgraded? Can your turntable be upgraded?Great track recordAlmost every type of deck on the market has now been modified with the Origin Live dc motor kit. So far on balance not one has failed to be a sonic improvement over the existing motor and power supply. With a money back guarantee if not satisfied we would soon be doing little or no business if this were not the case. The kit applies equally to high end decks such as Well tempered, Linn Lingo's, Roksans, Oracles etc as well as budget decks such as the Rega Planar 2. The kit is very useful not just as an upgrade but also for repairing
decks with broken motors or power supplies that would otherwise be unusable
- e.g. Oracle owners acquire the advanced motor kit for the Oracle because
it is 1/3 rd of the price Oracle were charging for new motors and a considerable
improvement to boot. Why upgrade? We believe this kit meets a major need and is proving to be very popular
because There are however a couple of hurdles We will leave you to judge some of these questions after you have read the reviews but will say now that many Rega 3 owners have said that it has utterly transformed their deck. Fitting guidanceWith regard to the fitting question we are in the process of putting together detailed accounts by end users on exactly how they fitted the kit to their decks. These detailed accounts are being posted on our web site on a continual basis by enthusiastic owners who supply photos and descriptions on how to carry out the job. A list of decks fitted with the kit along with guidance notes on fitting is available on our web site page http://www.turntable-power-supply.com/pulley.htm The fitting accounts and photos supplied by owners also include some interesting accounts on the improvements noted - the Transrotor and Kuzma deck mods are the first to date. The other option available is for people to get the kit installed by their local dealer. We now have a reasonable network of dealers in the UK and abroad who supply the kits and have been carrying out fitting although they will charge extra for fitting depending on the deck and time taken to carry out the modification. Lastly we would wish to ask a favor of any readers who have fitted the motor kit to their deck - if you notice on the aforementioned list that your particular deck does not have a detailed description for motor fitting on our web site would you please send us digital photos and a brief description of what is involved so that other owners of the same deck can have confidence about upgrading. |
Latest reviews of productsOrigin Live has been hitting the news lately and appeared on the front covers of 4 magazines over the last 3 months. The 3 pdf review links below make interesting reading as they represent an outstanding achievement in terms of product design. One of the most misleading things about reviews is that review writing style differs so much from one reviewer to the next. Some reviews need to be read in context as the reviewer concerned is not of the "wildly enthusiastic about everything" variety, but is reserved in praise by nature and of a more critical nature. We will return to this subject in a future newsletter but one thing we are convinced about is that the magazines perform an invaluable service in reviews and are by far the lesser of two evils - the other one being trusting everything you read on the newsgroups - unfortunately some of the comments you read are written by rival manufacturers posing as customers and pouring scorn on the competition - these are rare thankfully but there are similar problems. Aurora turntable review £997 - What Hi Fi sound and vision magazine This is a group comparison review by What Hi Fi magazine which is the
largest UK Hi Fi magazine - Our view is that this magazine probably has
the highest degree of integrity in the business - the fact that we came
out as winner in a group comparison test is not down to advertising, personal
friendship, cronyism or products given on loan. We have never met any
of the staff concerned, lent equipment or placed an advert with What Hi
Fi for over 4 years! There are a number of other reasons that we rate
What Hi-Fi but time does not suffice here. Resolution turntable review £1979 - Hi Fi World magazine
